Day 26 and 27
Day 26
Woke quite early due to the 5 hour time difference with London, Cyb went off to work and Si took us for a tour round the Connecticut College campus and the bush around their house. Cyb bunked off work early so she could come for a feed with us at Monica's State Street Diner. After breakfast we wandered round town a bit, to the comic shop, pier and bottle store. Cyb went back to work in the arvo so Si took us off to the Rocky Neck National Park, where we did a walk round through the bush and sat on the beach for a bit. I hid a penny in the sand for some bloke with a metal detector but he didn't bite or find it. That night we went out for the traditional American feed, a curry, and I have to report that even though the Birmingham curries were talked up, the New London one beat it quite comfortably. The night ended with a quiet bevie at the Dutch Tavern, and me talking to Will about my exceptional guitar skills, he's quite handy too.
Day 27
OK, if a curry is not quite All American fare, this morning Si made us pancakes with maple syrup, now that is all USA, they were nice as too! Cyb and Si then took Will off to Hartford to catch a plane to fly home, and we...went to sleep. We did get up in the afternoon though and visited the Mashantucket Pequot Musuem, yes this is an Indian (not from India or Fiji, from here) aka Native Americans, Red Indians or in Canada, First Nation People. It was a really well done place with a recreation of an Indian village and short film show how the Brits tried to wipe out the Pequot (sound familiar?). Two of the tribes round this part (Mashantucket Pequot and Mohegans, not to be confused with Daniel Day-Lewis's Mohicans) have the two biggest Indian casinos in the States and now seem to be doing pretty well for themselves, though these places do look slightly out of place in their surroundings. Si cooked us a barbie for tea then we went to a film/rockumentary about local punk band, The Reducers, 'The Best Unsigned Band in America' apparently. It was an interesting flick and what was more interesting was sitting in a movie where pretty much all those who appear in the film were also in the audience. Had an early night, got a big drive tomorrow.
